TikTok purges over 3 lakh videos for spreading misinformation
TikTok has been popular and favorited by many people especially young teenagers. With fast internet connection speed, you can watch or film perfect short videos with many interesting trends. Recently, the popular short video-sharing platform TikTok has removed over 340,000 videos in the US from the platform for breaking its rules relating to misinformation about the 2020 presidential election and the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to a report in Engadget on Wednesday, details of the takedowns were released as part of the company's latest transparency report. It is announced that the company took off 347,225 videos for sharing election misinformation or manipulated media. Moreover, there are additional 441,000 clips were removed from the app's recommendations because the content was lack of evidence.
During the same period of eliminating election misinformation videos, TikTok also had to take down 51,505 videos for sharing misinformation about Covid-19. In its report, TikTok noted that 87 percent of these clips were removed within 24 hours of being posted and that 71 percent had "zero views" at the time they were removed.
These new statistics are reported after messy relating the US election, around misinformation ahead of the election, TikTok tightened its policies.

In the lead-up to the 2020 election, the TikTok company adjusted and launched new rules in order to prevent deep fakes and expanded its work with fact-checking organizations to debunk false claims.
Also, the app attached more in-app notices to direct users to reliable information. In its report, TikTok represented that it prepared well for the election and that much of the misinformation was from domestic sources within the US.
Furthermore, the company also pointed out that misinformation and disinformation just take up only a fraction of the total content TikTok removes.
