It’s now easier than ever for publishers, developers, and prospective users to track the rise and fall of any specific applications on category leaderboards.

New icons showing chart position changes have now joined the Play Store, making it possible for people to know which apps are trending up and trending down on a leaderboard. This new feature was first spotted by a team over at androidpolice.com.

It’s so easy to see which apps are rising up and which apps are falling off in downloads thanks to these new icons. With the icons’ arrow pointing up, it means that a particular app is trending higher, and with the icons’ arrow pointing down, it means the opposite.

However, the icons do not tell how many spots that an app has gone up or has gone down within the app store rankings. The context of time is lacking here as it’s impossible to know how frequently the download rates are tracked.

How to check out which apps are rising up?

To check out which applications are trending up and trending down, you just need to open the Google App Store on your device, then tap on “Top charts” to see different leaderboards showing top apps in certain categories.

For example, looking at the Top Free chart above, we know that MeWe and DuckDuckGo apps are trending lower since they have arrows pointing down under their position metrics.
