The instant messaging service WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that allows users to access their accounts by email addresses in addition to phone numbers.

If users are unable to get the 6-digit OTP via SMS, the feature is meant to act as a backup method to assist users in logging into their accounts.

The "Email Verification" function has been added to the "Account Section" portion of WhatsApp beta for iOS and Android.

Users will be able to link an email address to their WhatsApp account here.

This feature turns out to be helpful when you want to trade phones but aren't quite ready to change the SIM on the new one, or when you want to log in to a new device in a place without cell network service.

With the latest build, WhatsApp is making the new email verification mechanism available to additional beta testers after testing it for several months.

Although just a small number of users have access to the most recent beta version of the software, it appears that WhatsApp is soon going to include a larger number of users.
