A Russian court has fined Google an amount so big that even the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov admitted to NBC News on Thursday that it was more of a symbolic gesture than money that would soon be used to bolster its war funds.
The fine is roughly $20 decillion — 20 followed by 33 zeros — or two undecillion rubles, which is a 37-digit figure.
In reality, it is far larger than the world's overall GDP, which the International Monetary Fund estimates to be $110 trillion.
Russia fines Google an extremely large number
According to the Russian news outlet RBC, the fine is the total amount demanded by 17 Russian television channels and other media outlets.
Their content has been blocked from YouTube, the tech giant's video platform, as sanctioned supporters of President Vladimir Putin's regime and its invasion of Ukraine.
The court that levied the fine may have a lengthy wait for Google to pay back.
According to Tass, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that he "cannot even pronounce this number" but asked "Google management to pay attention."
The company has not made any public comments or replied to a BBC request for a statement.
