After two serious security issues were found, Apple immediately issued an urgent update for millions of iPhone users.

The technology behemoth issued a warning, stating that iOS 16.5.1, the most recent release of iOS 16, was necessary to guard against two vulnerabilities that hackers are already aware of how to exploit.

One of the flaws is a "malicious attachment" that can be transmitted over iMessage and provide hackers access to an iPhone's location information, audio recordings, and images.

According to security experts, Operation Triangulation, a campaign that specifically targeted Kaspersky personnel, used the security hole known as TriangleDB, which has already been exploited.

In a blog post earlier this month, Kaspersky stated that "the deployment of the spyware is completely hidden and requires no action from the user."

The malware then covertly sends sensitive user data, including geolocation, microphone recordings, instant message images, and information on a variety of other behaviors of the device owner, to distant servers.

The second flaw affects Apple's WebKit browser engine, which exposes users to arbitrary code execution. This might lead to data theft or device hacking by nefarious third parties.

Since Apple has released security updates for all of these devices, both flaws may also affect users of iPads and Macs.

A software update for the Apple Watch was also made available by Apple, adding additional functionality to the wristwatch.

Although it is not yet generally accessible, the Cupertino corporation unveiled iOS 17, its most recent mobile operating system, earlier this month.

When the next iPhone is unveiled in September, an official release date for iOS 17 will be disclosed.
