Apple is ramping up plans to extend its News app, as the US tech giant becomes a more powerful force in pushing revenue throughout the publishing industry.

According to those familiar with the plans, the iPhone manufacturer is considering expanding the platform, which now serves around 125 million people every month in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

The sources stated that, it was also contemplating expanding its regionally focused news coverage in the UK, as well as adding a puzzles section, which is presently only accessible in the United States and Canada.

Apple expects that expanding its News app, together with its efforts to improve advertising efficacy, would help solidify the company's position as a growing source of revenue for many publications.
