TikTok Begins Restoring Service for US Users Following Trump's Claims
TikTok said on Sunday that it would restore access to U.S. users after banning it the evening before.
The company stated that its video platform would go back up after President-elect Donald Trump gave its service providers the required assurances.
"In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is restoring service," TikTok stated in a post on X.
"We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive."
TikTok comes back online in the US following Trump's claims
"It is a strong statement in support of the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship." We will collaborate with President Trump on a long-term solution to maintain TikTok in the United States," the company stated.
Just hours before TikTok suspended service for Americans, Trump wrote on Truth Social, urging it to continue. He stated that he wants it ready to broadcast his inauguration on Monday.
"On Monday, I will issue an executive order to extend the time before the law's prohibitions take effect, allowing us to reach an agreement to protect our national security."
"The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order," Trump wrote.
