Starlink's Global Internet Traffic Increases by 3.3x This Year
Starlink usage skyrocketed this year, with its internet traffic more than tripling, according to internet infrastructure company Cloudflare.
Global traffic from SpaceX's satellite internet service "grew 3.3x in 2024," as stated by the company's annual internet trends report.
The company "continues to be the leading satellite internet service provider, bringing connectivity to unserved or underserved areas."
Global traffic increased at a "steady, consistent" rate throughout the year. In certain countries, traffic has also increased dramatically, most likely owing to a "pent-up" desire for an alternative to ground-based internet services, which frequently fail to reach rural and distant locations.

"For instance, Starlink service became available in Malawi in July 2023, and throughout 2024, Starlink traffic from the country grew 38x," Cloudflare informs me.
Georgia's Starlink traffic increased "over 100x," while Paraguay's increased by "over 900x" throughout the year.
The 3.3x surge outpaces Starlink's traffic growth in 2023, which almost tripled from the previous year, according to Cloudflare data.
Last month, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell stated that Starlink is close to achieving 5 million global subscribers, up from more than 2 million when the business initially reported breaking the mark in September 2023.
