Google is aiming to enable Gmail users to reply to emails with a single emoji on iOS and Android phones.

The feature has been the subject of rumors over the past few weeks.

The function, according to Google, will let users "express yourself and quickly respond."

Emoji responses are reportedly starting to progressively trickle out on Android as of October 3.

Over the following several months, it will be accessible on iOS and the web.

Users will see an "add emoji reaction" button with a picker presenting the usual options at the bottom of each email.

The three-dot menu is adjacent to that button.

Users may choose among the 5 built-in emojis by tapping it to reveal a tiny menu.

When one is chosen, a response bar displays below the message with that emoji.
