OpenAI Makes ChatGPT Available to All Users in a Challenge to Google
OpenAI said on Monday that it will make ChatGPT-powered internet searches available to all users, intensifying its challenge to Google's supremacy.
In late October, the San Francisco-based tech startup expanded its ChatGPT generative AI chatbot with search engine capabilities, but only paid users could access the functionality.
The newly public function allows users to obtain "fast, timely answers" with links to relevant online sources -- information that was previously only available through a traditional search engine, according to the business.

The ChatGPT upgrade enables the AI chatbot to give real-time information from around the web.
"We're bringing search to all logged-in free users of ChatGPT," OpenAI chief product officer Kevin Weil stated in a YouTube video. "That means it'll be available globally on every platform where you use ChatGPT."
Examples of OpenAI's new interface resembled Google search results and Google Maps but without the clutter of advertising.
They also looked similar to the interface of Perplexity, another AI-powered search engine that provides a more conversational version of Google by displaying the sources cited in the answer.
