AT&T Launches a Wireless Backup to Keep Fiber Customers Online
AT&T has announced the debut of Internet Backup. It is a breakthrough feature that combines the capabilities of its converged 5G and fiber networks to give consumers seamless connectivity.
Starting next week, AT&T Fiber customers with a qualifying AT&T unlimited wireless plan can enable cellular backup on their current gateways, providing continuous internet access even during rare fiber network failures.
"Keeping our customers connected is our top priority," said Erin Scarborough, Senior Vice President of Product Management at AT&T.
"While AT&T Fiber boasts exceptional reliability, Internet Backup offers an added layer of assurance, allowing customers to stay online without interruption or extra cost."

Activating Internet Backup is straightforward, requiring only a few taps in the Smart Home Manager app.
Once activated, the feature automatically switches to cellular backup when a fiber disruption is detected, using the customer's smartphone as a connection point. When the network is restored, the service smoothly reverts to fiber.
This innovative solution exemplifies AT&T's dedication to providing an exceptional customer experience.
AT&T delivers unprecedented simplicity and value by combining existing technologies without the need for additional equipment or wireless plans.
