Ever since Epic Games initially challenged Apple's policy of prohibiting in-app purchases for applications other than those regulated by the App Store in August 2020, the two companies have been involved in judicial disputes.

Apple also retained a 30% cut of the payment from each in-game purchase.

Epic introduced its own in-app payment system for Fortnite to get around that system, and as a result, Apple removed the game from the App Store.

Apple was compelled to permit Fortnite to return to iOS devices following the recent enactment of the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), laws aimed at improving the fairness of the technology sector.

Epic said that it will be opening the Epic Games Store, a store for its own games, as opposed to bringing it back to the App Store.

The DMA basically mandated that Apple enable third-party app stores, therefore Apple had to authorize Epic's developer account.

However, Apple abruptly terminated Epic's developer account in Sweden a few weeks after it was granted.

According to Epic, the reason for the account being deleted was because of a thread published to X by Epic CEO Tim Sweeney criticizing Apple’s practices.

The thread went live ten days after the developer account was originally approved.
